NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS DONATES $10,000 TO RED CROSS RELIEF EFFORTS
08/31/2005 - For Immediate ReleaseWALL, N.J. – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), the principal subsidiary of New Jersey Resources (NYSE:NJR), announced today that it has pledged $10,000 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
“This week we witnessed nature’s power and fury as Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast causing damages in the untold billions,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJNG. “Just as the impact of this devastation will be felt throughout the country, so too will the compassion that exemplifies the spirit of the nation. At NJNG, we’re a lifeline utility service provider. In times like these, we’re proud to extend that lifeline to those in need.”
The American Red Cross has launched the largest mobilization of resources for a single natural disaster in the organization’s history. Four truckloads of shelter supplies were sent from the Jersey Coast Chapter on Sunday. Comfort and clean up kits are also on the way to the areas affected by the Category 4 storm. In addition, five Red Cross volunteers from the area, and a total of 26 from New Jersey, have been deployed to help assist disaster victims.
“A hurricane of this magnitude is a true act of nature, something totally beyond our control,” said Bill Murray, CEO of the Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We can make a difference though, by responding to those who so desperately need our help now. Just as with all contributions, 100 percent of NJNG’s donation will go directly to assist those who have lost so much.”
