NEW JERSEY RESOURCES CLIMBS IN THE FORTUNE 1000
04/19/2006 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. – New Jersey Resources (NYSE: NJR) recently ranked 592 on Fortune magazine’s annual list of America’s largest corporations. This moved the company ahead 45 places over last year’s ranking of 637, and solidified NJR as a strong investment in the utility industry.

“Our consistent revenue growth has earned us a place on the Fortune 1000 for a fifth consecutive year,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJR. “Among the 53 electric and gas utilities ranked this year, we are proud to say that we rank third in our earnings per share growth over a 10-year period. This reaffirms our commitment to provide a superior return to our shareowners.”

In 2005, NJR saw a 24.3 percent increase in revenue due to continued strong customer growth at its principal subsidiary, New Jersey Natural Gas. NJR Energy Services, NJR’s wholesale energy services business, was able to maximize earnings due to increased volatility on the natural gas market. NJR’s revenue in 2005, which reached over $3.1 billion, placed the company 35th on the list of electric and gas utility companies.

Every year, Fortune magazine compiles the list of America’s 1,000 biggest companies and ranks them by total revenue. The list is also broken down into industries and lists other financial figures such as earnings per share growth, profits and total return to investors.
