NEW JERSEY RESOURCES NAMED TO THE FORBES PLATINUM LIST OF THE BEST BIG COMPANIES IN AMERICA FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
01/03/2007 - For Immediate Release

WALL, N.J. – New Jersey Resources (NYSE: NJR) was recently named to the Forbes Platinum List of the 400 Best Big Companies in America. Selected by Forbes Magazine after a thorough review of financial metrics, Wall Street forecasts, corporate governance ratings and other public information, the Platinum 400 List recognizes the best of the biggest publicly traded companies in America. This is the fifth consecutive year NJR has been named to the list.

“To be recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the best companies in America is a tremendous honor and a tribute to the women and men of New Jersey Resources who are the driving force behind our company,” said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of NJR. “Every day, we give our best to meet our stakeholders’ expectations for reliability and value, and this recognition attests our performance and affirms our place as an industry leader.”

To compile the Platinum 400 List, Forbes screened over 1,000 corporations with $1 billion or more in revenues, using metrics such as latest-12-month and five-year stock market returns, sales and earnings-per-share growth and debt-to-capital ratios. Companies were divided into 26 industries and ranked against their industry peers on five-year and 12-month sales as well as earnings growth and total return to shareholders. The ranking system also included consensus forecasts for long-term earnings growth and debt-to-capital ratios.

In fiscal 2006, NJR delivered a 15th consecutive year of higher earnings, the longest current streak among all major natural gas and electric utilities in the country. NJR’s principal subsidiary, New Jersey Natural Gas, continues to achieve a customer growth rate that exceeds the national average and leads the state in customer satisfaction according to the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study.

A list of all 400 companies can be found online at www.forbes.com/platinum.
